The nomination deadline for the Bishop Suffragan for Armed Services and Federal Ministries has been extended to April 30. This bishop, based in the nation’s capital, serves on the staff of Presiding Bishop Michael Curry.

The election is scheduled for the House of Bishops’ next meeting in September. At its March meeting the House of Bishops heard a presentation from the search committee about the ministry and the search. The bishops asked that nominations be kept open as long as possible because of the position’s importance.

The Rt. Rev. James Magness, who announced his retirement in 2015, said federal chaplains serve those in the military, Veterans Health Administration hospitals, and federal prisons.

Christopher Weaver, Rear Admiral, U.S. Navy-retired, leads the search committee. For more information, write to Weaver or Maggie Mount.
