Presiding Bishop Rowe brought the protracted conflict to a sudden halt by signing an accord with the former Florida bishop, who then unexpectedly resigned his orders.
“It has been six months since we have heard anything from [Samuel Johnson Howard],” said Bishop Jennifer Brooke-Davidson, chairwoman of the hearing panel.
Two cases against retired Bishop Samuel Johnson Howard hinge on whether the bishop and the Presiding Bishop can agree on an accord. Failing that, the cases move to public hearings on April 30.
Some objectors cited the Rev. Charlie Holt’s views on same-sex marriage and statements that they view as intolerant or insulting to LGBTQ+ people and Black people.
