The Rt. Rev. Shannon MacVean-Brown, Bishop of Vermont, said in a July 21 pastoral letter that her diocese is facing serious financial shortfalls in the near future. Despite relatively healthy budgets in recent years, the diocese is considering various options to ensure future financial sustainability in the face of declining revenue from shrinking congregations.

Two new bishops-elect have received the necessary consents for their consecrations.

Bishop Jennifer Baskerville-Burrows: “I take particular note that Vermont, having previously elected the first woman to serve as diocesan bishop in the Episcopal Church, has now elected the first black woman to serve as diocesan bishop in Province I.”

The Bishop of Vermont plans to begin his retirement phase by the end of September.
