The Rt. Rev. Jeffrey D. Lee writes to the Diocese of Chicago by email:
I write with the sad news that Bishop William Wiedrich, suffragan bishop in the Diocese of Chicago from 1991 to 1997, died [Nov. 26] at his home in an assisted living facility in Michigan. He was 83 and had suffered from Alzheimer’s disease for some time.
Bishop Wiedrich spent the first twenty-five years of his ministry in the Diocese of Northern Michigan. In 1981, he became rector of the historic Grace Episcopal Church in Madison, Wisconsin, and in October of 1990, he was elected bishop suffragan here in Chicago. He was much loved during his time with us.
Please join me in giving thanks for his service to our diocese and praying for the repose of his soul. Please also pray for comfort for his wife, Tress, and his sons, Tom and Bill. Tom and his family are members of Church of the Holy Comforter in Kenilworth.
When I know more about plans for a memorial service here in Chicago, we will let you know.
