The Rt. Rev. Terence Kelshaw, who taught at Trinity School for Ministry before becoming Bishop of the Rio Grande, died in his sleep July 5. He was 78.

Following thirteen years of ordained ministry, Bishop Kelshaw joined the faculty of Trinity School for Ministry as Professor of Pastoral Studies in 1980. In 1989 he was elected Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of the Rio Grande. During his 16 years as bishop he established an extension site of Trinity School for Ministry to train clergy and lay leaders in his region. In his retirement he helped to establish the ACNA Diocese of the Southwest. Throughout his life and ministry he touched countless lives with the gospel of Jesus Christ.
“The Trinity community mourns the death of Bishop Kelshaw, but rejoices in his life and ministry among us,” remarked the Venerable Dr. Mark Stevenson, Trinity’s Academic Dean. “We were privileged to have him as a member of our faculty where his deep love of the gospel influenced the lives and ministries of countless students. We are all grateful to have been touched by him.”
Bishop Kelshaw is survived by his wife, Hazel, four children, and their spouses, and nine grandchildren. A Celebration of Life service will be held Monday, July 13, at 11 a.m. at the Heights Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
