The Diocese of West Texas elected the Rt. Rev. David Mitchell Reed as its bishop coadjutor on October 25. Reed, 57, has served as bishop suffragan since 2006. He is the first suffragan bishop in the diocese’s history to be elected as a coadjutor.
Reed will continue to serve alongside the Rt. Rev. Gary Lillibridge, Bishop of West Texas since 2004. When Lillibridge retires in 2017, Reed will become tenth bishop of the diocese.
Reed was ordained in 1983 when he graduated from the Seminary of the Southwest. Reed served as assistant rector of St. Alban’s, Harlingen, 1983-87; rector of St. Francis, Victoria, 1987-94; and rector of St. Alban’s, Harlingen, 1994-2006.
