Saint Paul’s College will not open for classes for the fall semester.
The financially struggling college in Lawrenceville announced that most operations have been suspended as the historically black school founded in 1888 appeals the loss of accreditation.
“We made a prudent decision, and it was a difficult one to make,” Kimberly Tetlow, vice president for institutional advancement, said Monday.
The Rev. James Solomon Russell founded what is now Saint Paul’s College as Saint Paul Normal and Industrial School in September 1888. The Rev. Worth E. “Woody” Norman, Jr., wrote about Archdeacon Russell in the April 10 issue of The Living Church, and his essay is available here as a PDF.
