Pop Praise: Keenan Thompson Imitates PB

Keenan Thompson, the cast member of Saturday Night Live with the longest tenure on the show, captured the culture clash of British worshipers beholding the engaged preaching of Presiding Bishop Michael Curry.

For Episcopalians familiar with Bishop Curry’s themes and homiletical style, his sermon during the royal wedding was restrained. He remained behind a simple pulpit, did not shout with joy, and focused tightly on the power of love, especially during the inevitable conflicts of being in a relationship.

But as Harper’s Bazaar recorded in a humorous roundup of photographs, the royal family did not quite know what to make of this presiding bishop who speaks in more than a hushed monotone.

Executive Council Launches Strategic Overhaul

“Today in the Episcopal Church we are faced with institutional structures that we have for some time now permitted to atrophy. They have lost their ability to do what we need to do…. All of these values that we say that we hold, all the ways that we want to witness in the world – we have to have the capacity to carry that out.”
