Twenty-seven people received Lambeth Awards April 4 from the Archbishop of Canterbury.
The Lambeth Awards, launched by Abp. Justin Welby in 2016, recognize outstanding service in different fields, including those of the archbishop’s ministry priorities of prayer and the monastic life; reconciliation and peace-building; and evangelism and witness.
“It is a great honor to present the Lambeth Awards again this year. As we look around our world today, we could be tempted to despair at the injustice, inequality, and suffering that so many people are enduring,” Archbishop Welby said. “But our faith in God, and in our Savior Jesus Christ, teaches us that there is always hope.
“The tireless work of these men and women for justice, peace, and reconciliation is a great source of such hope. Praise God for those whose lives are dedicated to serving his purposes.”
This year’s recipients:
- Bishop Joseph Aldred: The Langton Award for Community Service for his mission to the United Kingdom’s African-Caribbean community and to the wider church;
- Prof. Michael Barnes, SJ: The Hubert Walter Award for Reconciliation and Interfaith Cooperation;
- Canon Alyson Barnett-Cowan: The Lambeth Cross for Ecumenism;
- Victoria Bridgeman: The Canterbury Cross for Services to the Church of England;
- Clare Brown: The Lanfranc Award for Education and Scholarship;
- Shari Brown: The Langton Award for Community Service;
- The Rev. Graham Burton: The Hubert Walter Award for Reconciliation and Interfaith Cooperation;
- The Rev. David Cornick: The Lambeth Cross for Ecumenism.
- Petà Dunstan: The Dunstan Award for Prayer and the Religious Life;
- Canon Prof. Richard Farnell (posthumously): The Langton Award for Community Service;
- The Rev. Jessica Foster: The Hubert Walter Award for Reconciliation and Interfaith Cooperation;

- Roger Jones: The Thomas Cranmer Award for Worship;
- The Ven. Prince Daniel Kajumba: Citation for the Canterbury Cross for Services to the Church of England;
- The Rt. Rev. Graham Kings: The Cross of St Augustine for Services to the Anglican Communion;
- The Rev. Canon John Knight: The Alphege Award for Evangelism and Witness;
- Canon Jill MacDonald: The Alphege Award for Evangelism and Witness for her exceptional contribution to community building and leadership in Birmingham.
