Konieczny to Serve on ACC

The Rt. Rev. Edward J. Konieczny is the new bishop member of the Anglican Consultative Council (ACC). Executive Council elected the bishop Jan. 23 to succeed the Rt. Rev. Ian Douglas, whose term has expired. Konieczny, Bishop of Oklahoma, is a member of Executive Council.  His term takes effect immediately.

The term is for three meetings of the ACC, which is generally nine years. The triennial meetings require a two-week commitment. The next ACC meeting is set for 2019, at a location to be determined. The ACC is the only instrument of communion that includes clergy and lay people along with bishops.

The Episcopal Church’s other ACC members are the Rev. Gay Clark Jennings, president of the of the House of Deputies and Rosalie Ballantine of the Diocese of the Virgin Islands.

In addition to Executive Council, Konieczny serves as a member of the Presiding Bishop’s Council of Advice; is vice president of Province VII; and was co-chair of the Joint Nominating Committee for the Election of the Presiding Bishop. As a member of Bishops Against Gun Violence, he hosted the Reclaiming the Gospel of Peace Conference in Oklahoma in 2014.

He is a member of Anglican Bishops in Dialogue, a group of bishops from the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, and Africa that have met annually since Lambeth 2008 to promote stronger relationships across the Communion.

Konieczny has been instrumental in establishing a partner relationship between the Diocese of Uruguay and the Diocese of Oklahoma. He is a member of the Compass Rose Society and maintains a strong working relationship with the Archbishop of Canterbury.
