The Most Rev. Suheil Dawani, Archbishop in Jerusalem and the Middle East, has installed four new canons at St George’s Cathedral in Jerusalem:
- Episcopal Canons: The Most Rev. Josiah Idowu-Fearon, secretary general of the Anglican Communion, and the Most Rev. Paul Kwong, Archbishop of Hong Kong and chairman of the Anglican Consultative Council
- Honorary Episcopal Canon: The Rt. Rev. C. Andrew Doyle, Bishop of Texas
- Honorary Canon: The Rev. Peter Koon, provincial secretary of Hong Kong
The new canons celebrated Evensong at the cathedral, joined by His Beatitude Patriarch Theophilos III and Archbishop Aristarchus of Constantine. Clergy at the service represented Burundi, Canada, Ghana, Liberia, New Zealand, South Africa, the United States, and the West Indies.
“This is a very tangible expression of Hong Kong’s relations with the mother church of Jerusalem, the cradle of Christianity,” Archbishop Kwong said. “This installation cements our friendship, cooperation, and work together. We have much to give, share, and further in our joint witness to Christ.”
The four newly appointed canons are participating in a pilgrimage to the Holy Land led by Archbishop Josiah Idowu-Fearon. The group includes five primates, five members of the Anglican Consultative Council, five provincial secretaries, five members of the Compass Rose Society, and five members of Friends of the Anglican Episcopal Diocese of Jerusalem.
