Exhibit Honors Pauli Murray

Dawn Baumgartner Vaughan writes for The Herald Sun of Durham, North Carolina:

Down the street from Pauli Murray’s old neighborhood, an exhibit about the Episcopal saint’s life will be on display this fall. The Scrap Exchange will host “Pauli Murray: Imp, Crusader, Dude, Priest” in the Cameron Gallery at the building at the Lakewood shopping center in the West End.

Exhibit organizers with the Pauli Murray Project painted the gallery walls purple and began installing the exhibit early this week. It opens with a reception Friday, which will also include an update on the restoration of Murray’s childhood home on Carroll Street. It will be on display until Dec. 12.

Courtney Reid-Eaton has been involved with the Pauli Murray Project for several years, including the public art murals of Murray around Durham in 2006.

“There aren’t many cities where you can find heroic images of women of color,” Reid-Eaton said.
