Christ is Risen, Alleluia!

The Sisters of St. Mary welcomed the dawn with the paschal celebration at Christ the King Spiritual Life Center in Greenwich, New York. The service began in darkness, with the sacred readings of the Great Vigil punctuated by the setting of the full moon behind Schuyler Mountain. After a procession to a nearby hill in what was now dawn, the New Fire was kindled, the Pascal candle was lit from the fire, and candles ignited from it. Then the assembly processed to St. Michael and All Angels Chapel for the proclamation: “Christ is Risen, Alleluia!” with its answer, “He is risen indeed! Alleluia!”

Worshipers renewed their baptismal vows and celebrated the Paschal mass. The Rt. Rev. Daniel W. Herzog (left) and the Rev. William E. “Chip” Strickland were celebrants. Among the others assembled is Mother Miriam of St. Mary’s Convent (far right).
