Adapted from the Diocese of West Texas

Bryan Stevenson, founder and executive director of the Equal Justice Initiative, author of Just Mercy, and a prominent public interest lawyer, will present the 2016 Blandy Lecture in September, hosted by Seminary of the Southwest’s Alumni Association. Stevenson will deliver the free lecture at 7 p.m. Sept. 27 at the LBJ Auditorium. The Division of Diversity and Community Engagement and the William Wayne Justice Center for Public Interest Law at the University of Texas at Austin will join the seminary as hosts of Stevenson’s public lecture.

Registration for Stevenson’s lecture is not necessary, but it is required for the Alumni Convocation.

Two awards are presented during the convocation. The seminary faculty will present the 2016 Durstan R. McDonald Teaching Award to Virginia Garrard-Burnett, professor at the University of Texas, and director of LLILAS Benson Latin American Studies and Collections.

The alumni association will present the 2016 Hal Brook Perry Distinguished Alumni Award to the Rev. Susan McCann, an Episcopal priest and social activist.
