The Bishop of Iowa and the Bishop of Swaziland will attend the consecration of the Very Rev. Andrew Swift as the next Bishop of Brechin in the Scottish Episcopal Church. The three dioceses have been global companions for 30 years.
The service is scheduled for 2 p.m. Aug. 25 at St. Paul’s Cathedral in Dundee, and the church will offer streaming video. The Most Rev. Mark Strange, primus of the Scottish Episcopal Church, will preside.
Bishop Alan Scarfe of Iowa and Bishop Ellinah Wamukoya of Swaziland will join in laying on hands in prayer as Swift is consecrated for the office.
“This is an exciting time to be the Scottish Episcopal Church in Dundee, the Carse of Gowrie, and Angus and the Mearns,” Swift said. “Our church has an important part to play in the life of Scotland, and I am confident that, trusting in God, we can play that part here, in this place.
“While all churches face challenges, I am very encouraged by the optimism I have found in the Diocese of Brechin. I am looking forward to meeting with and listening to the people of the charges and helping them to develop as part of the 21st-century Scottish Episcopal Church.”
