The Rt. Rev. Michael P. Milliken, Bishop of Western Kansas since 2011, will assist the Diocese of Kansas as the diocese begins to search for its tenth bishop.
“We are grateful to our sisters and brothers in Christ in the Episcopal Diocese of Western Kansas for sharing their bishop with us during this time of transition,” said a letter from the diocese’s Council of Trustees. “Bishop Milliken’s first service with us will be the Chrism Mass on Tuesday, April 11, at 10:30 a.m. at St. David’s Episcopal Church, 3916 S.W. 17th Street, in Topeka.”
The council added: “Regarding the next steps in our search for the 10th Bishop of the Diocese of Kansas, we are excited to embark upon this work with you. This work will begin at once, as we seek names of people from across the diocese to serve on the Search and Transition Committees.
“You may nominate yourself, or another person with his/her permission, by completing this online form. The deadline for submission is April 18.”
The Diocese of Kansas was founded in 1897. The Diocese of Western Kansas began its life in 1903 as the Missionary District of Salina, and became a diocese in 1971.
