Two future bishops elected earlier this year have received the necessary consents from bishops and standing committees, and will be consecrated in the fall.
The Rev. Dr. Jonathan H. Folts was elected XI Bishop of South Dakota on May 4, and will be consecrated and ordained on November 2.
The Rev. Dr. Shannon MacVean-Brown was elected XI Bishop of Vermont on May 18. Her consecration and ordination service will be on September 28.
Under Canon III.11.3., a majority of standing committees and bishops with jurisdiction must attest to knowing of “no impediment on account of which” the elected individuals ought not to be ordained as bishops, and that their elections were conducted in accordance with the Canons.
