Bishop Andy Doyle of Texas has appointed the Rev. Canon Christine M. Faulstich, chief of staff, as his new canon to the ordinary.

The appointment followed the election of the Rev. Canon Kathryn (Kai) Ryan as the new Bishop Suffragan of the diocese’s West Region.

“Christine Faulstich has been and continues to be a leader in our diocese. She is wise, challenges me, is a diocesan vision-bearer, and a strategic thinker. She is a friend to her fellow clergy,” Bishop Doyle said.

“I’m looking forward to working with her in the coming years as she helps me lead the diocese to greater engagement in mission. The canon to the ordinary does this work, but the position is more. … It is a call to join me and others on the diocesan staff in our service to the clergy and people of the diocese. Canon Faulstich will bring distinction to the office and the diocese. I am grateful for her acceptance of the ministry.”

“I have loved serving in the Diocese of Texas for the past nine years and look forward to continuing to work with the people, clergy, congregations, and institutions of our diocese,” Faulstich said.

Before joining the diocesan staff, Faulstich served as rector of the Church of the Epiphany, a multicultural congregation in Southwest Houston, where she was also chair of ECHOS (Epiphany Community Health Outreach Services), a social service agency founded by Epiphany. Previously she served as associate rector of St. Matthew’s, Austin.

Faulstich graduated from Rice University with a degree in economics and attended Virginia Theological Seminary. She has served on the Commission on Ministry, the Board of Examining Chaplains, and the Standing Committee of the diocese. She is married to the Rev. David Goldberg, a curate at Iglesia Episcopal San Pedro/St. Peter’s in Pasadena.
