The Diocese of El Camino Real has announced five nominees in the search for its fourth bishop:
The Rev. Canon Lucinda Ashby has served as canon to the ordinary in the Diocese of Idaho since 2011. She was ordained in 2004 in the Diocese of Northern California.
Ashby serves as the dean for the High Desert School for Ministry. She teaches in the local three-year formation program for people pursuing ordination in the dioceses of Idaho and Eastern Oregon.
Lucinda grew up in Perú and speaks Spanish fluently. She and her husband, Bob, live in Boise, Idaho.
The Rev. Deon Johnson is rector of St. Paul’s Church in Brighton, Mich. He was ordained to the priesthood in December 2003 in the Diocese of Ohio, where he was the associate rector of Christ Church for three years.
At St. Paul’s, Deon has been instrumental in growing the congregation as well as overseeing a capital campaign that raised $2.2 million to renovate its 135-year-old building.
Deon and his husband, Jhovanny, are foster parents to Lilohalani and Ja’Lon.
The Rev. Janine Schenone is rector of Good Samaritan Church in San Diego, a medium-sized church with outreach and advocacy efforts and an ethos of hospitality and openness to seekers.
She was ordained to the priesthood in January 2013 in the Diocese of New York and served as theologian in residence at Christ Church in Bronxville while pursuing a PhD in systematic theology.
Her daughter, Georgia, is about to graduate from law school in San Diego and will be married in the fall.
The Rev. Channing Smith is rector of St. Andrew’s Church and School in Saratoga, Calif.
He has created and oversees an annual Faith and Innovation regional conference that uses contemplative wisdom to explore the impact of innovation in a rapidly changing world.
He has been married to Mary Richards-Smith, a licensed psychotherapist, for 28 years. They have a daughter, Olivia.
The Rev. Canon Janet Waggoner serves as the canon to the ordinary and chief of staff in the Diocese of Fort Worth.
Janet was ordained to the diaconate in June 2001 in the Diocese of Oregon and to the priesthood in February 2002 in the Diocese of Connecticut.
Waggoner and her husband, Ed, are parents to Wynne and Ben.
