Resettlement Director Appointed

Demetrio Alvero is now director of operations for the refugee resettlement area of Episcopal Migration Ministries and will report directly to the Rev. Canon Charles Robertson, canon to the presiding bishop for ministry beyond the Episcopal Church.

“This underscores the continuing administration of the refugee resettlement program, while strengthening formulation and implementation of EMM’s mission and vision in line with mandates from the governing bodies of the Episcopal Church,” Canon Robertson said, adding that the title reflects “work that Demetrio has been doing in the administration of the program.”

Alvero began his career with EMM in 2005 as grants and compliance manager and was appointed deputy director in 2010. His knowledge and experience in the areas of refugee and migration matters spans more than 40 years in the United States and abroad, primarily in Afghanistan, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Kenya, and Pakistan.

Episcopal Migration Ministries is one of nine national agencies responsible for resettling refugees in the United States in partnership with the government. It has 14 affiliates in 12 Episcopal dioceses.
