San Diego Triples Slate

The Diocese of San Diego, after a period of welcoming nominees by petition, has expanded the slate from one to three in seeking its fifth bishop. The nominees will tour the diocese Jan. 13-18, and the diocese will elect on Feb. 2.

  • Canon for church growth and development in the Diocese of Oklahoma
  • Former certified public accountant
  • Wrote God Gave the Growth: Church Planting in the Episcopal Church; co-founded the Acts 8 Movement, dedicated to proclaiming resurrection in the Episcopal Church; and serves on the board of Forward Movement
  • Married to Tom Snook for over 30 years, mother to two grown daughters, Sarah and Julia

The Rev. Michael S. Tinnon

  • Interim rector of St. David’s, San Diego
  • Served in the U.S. Army Chaplain Corps and the U.S. Air Force for over 25 years, providing spiritual care and guidance to military service members and their families
  • Married to Becky Tinnon, an ordained Episcopal priest
  • Native of Lexington, Ky., father of three, grandfather of three, and owner of a dog, Riley

The diocese chose Canon Snook as the sole nominee on Oct. 22 and extended its deadline for nominations by petition.

In an interview with TLC, the Rt. Rev. Todd Ousley had expressed confidence that more nominees would emerge: “San Diego’s going to have petition nominees, so they’re going to end up with the normative number on the slate come election day.”
