Bishop-elect Will Return to Zimbabwe

The Very Rev. Farai Mutamiri, who stepped down as dean of St. Mary and All Angels Cathedral to work in Canada, has been elected the Diocese of Harare’s next bishop.

Mutamiri served as dean from 2008 until August, when he moved to Canada. He was elected to succeed the Rt. Rev. Chad Gandiya, who retires on New Year’s Eve. Mutamiri will be consecrated and enthroned on Jan. 6, Epiphany Sunday.

After training for ordination at Bishop Gaul Theological College in Harare, he was ordained deacon in 1998 and priest in1999. He has since served as rector in various parishes within the diocese before becoming dean in 2008. In April this year he was awarded a doctorate by the University of Pretoria.
