Will Retherford’s Neo Spiritual Pop

Musician Will Retherford, creative director at Christ Church in Tulsa, Okla., has released his “Human,” his first new single in five years. The chorus is inspired South African Archbishop Desmond Tutu’s teaching that “My humanity is bound up in yours, for we can only be human together.”

Retherford studied theology at General Theological Seminary and completed his studies this year. In one of his classes, he learned of Desmond Tutu and was inspired by his life and teachings.

Retherford expects that “Humans” will be the first of many new releases as he dives into a new sound, which he calls Neo Spiritual Pop.

He wants to build a bridge between “Christian music” and “non-Christian music.” He believes that all music is spiritual but the focus changes with each song. His music will center on faith, justice, and liturgical prayers.

“Human” is available on Apple Music and Spotify.
