Two Nominees in Kansas June 22, 2018 Clips, News Martha Magill and Helen Svoboda-Barber The council of trustees in the Diocese of Kansas has announced two nominees to become 10th bishop: the Rev. Martha N. Macgill, rector of Emmanuel Parish in Cumberland, Maryland, and the Rev. Helen Svoboda-Barber, rector of St. Luke’s Church in Durham, North Carolina. The search committee chose three nominees, but one withdrew soon after the slate was presented to the council of trustees, which oversees the election. Nominees may be added by petition until 5 p.m. June 30. The election is scheduled for Oct. 19, the first day of the diocese’s annual convention, at Grace Cathedral in Topeka.
