The Rt. Rev. Scott Benhase has prepared a Bible study guide as the Diocese of Georgia prepares for its one-day revival, “Faithless Fear, Boundless Faith.”

The study guide centers on Anna Ellison Butler Alexander (1865-1947), the first black deaconess in the Episcopal Church. The revival will begin at 10 a.m. Sept. 17 with a Holy Eucharist at Church of the Good Shepherd, Brunswick, Alexander’s home parish.

The diocese designated Alexander as a saint of Georgia in 1998. Her feast day is Sept. 24. General Convention voted in 2015 to include her in Holy Women, Holy Men.
