Bunyoro-Kitara’s New Bishop

The Rev. Canon Samuel Kahuma has been elected Bishop of Bunyoro-Kitara, Uganda. He will be consecrated and enthroned Dec. 3 at St. Peter’s Cathedral, Duhaga. The Church of Uganda’s House of Bishops elected Canon Kahuma on June 1.

Kahuma came to faith in Jesus in October 1983 during a three-day mission at his parish church. He was ordained deacon in 1990 and priest in 1991 in Bunyoro-Kitara. He became a canon of St. Peter’s Cathedral in 2004.

Canon Kahuma serves as Bunyoro-Kitara’s diocesan secretary. He has also served as archdeacon of Hoima, dean and vicar of St. Peter’s Cathedral, and priest of several parishes in Bunyoro-Kitara.

Canon Kahuma earned a master’s degree in global issues in contemporary mission from Redcliffe College of the University of Gloucestershire (U.K.), and a bachelor of divinity and diploma of theology from Uganda Christian University.

Canon Kahuma is married to Sarah Kahuma and they have one son. He will succeed the Rt. Rev. Nathan Kyamanywa.
