2012-09-20 17.42.48The Rev. Emily Hylden relishes wearing different hats; it began with her active imagination as a elementary school student. Currently, she serves as Editorial Assistant for the Living Church Foundation, managing the Daily Devotional and electronic communications. On Sundays, she can be found at Downtown Church in Columbia, South Carolina, a four-year-old PCUSA church plant, which gives her the opportunity to write prayers and to wear jeans to work. After becoming a certified yoga instructor in July 2015, she began sharing her love for drawing body and spirit together through yoga practice. In the past, she’s served as Canon for Young Adult Ministries at Trinity Cathedral in Columbia, and as curate at the Church of St. Michael and St. George in St. Louis, Missouri.

She was confirmed in the Episcopal Church in 2009 after she fell in love with the Daily Office and the reverence she witnessed in Anglican worship. Soon after, she matriculated at Duke Divinity School and answered a call to ordination. Since childhood, she’s felt most at home cooking, baking, and hosting parties — one might say that’s still the crux of her work as a priest.

Emily loves to hike in the mountains and enjoy the seashore with her husband, Jordan, also an Episcopal priest, and their German Shepherd, Benedict. She blogs on spirituality and food at hope of things not seen.
