The Rt. Rev. Bruce Caldwell, provisional bishop of Lexington since June 2016, has announced via email to members of the diocese that he must step away from his work:

I am writing to let you know that I have, with regret, decided to wind down my ministry with you by the end of this year. Family health issues have become a major concern, and I am going to have to take a more active role in providing care. My regret is that I will not be able to walk with you until the end of your bishop election process. I also feel loss in that I have grown quite fond of this diocese and its people, and have truly enjoyed the ministry we have shared. I will, of course, continue to do my best to be fully attentive to your needs until the end of the year.

The diocese is in the early stages of seeking its eighth bishop.
