Altoria E. White writes for the Diocese of Southeast Florida’s weblog that the Norland Post Office in Miami Gardens has been named in honor of the Rev. Canon Richard L. Marquess-Barry:

Fr. Barry has served the Miami community for many years, most recently as the rector of the Historic St. Agnes Episcopal Church in the Overtown area of Miami. Perhaps most significant of his community service is his dedication to brining people together and bridging the many divides of Miamians. Canon Barry has served the Episcopal Church for 39 years.

In thanking the crowd for their support, Canon Barry reflected on the shoulders on which he stands. “Lives of great men all remind us we can make our lives sublime, and departing, leave behind us footprints on the sands of time. I’m hoping that I’ve left some footprints that my two grandsons can step in,” remarked Canon Barry. Both grandsons were present for the ceremony.
